At seventeen you had me in-between The devil and the deep blue sea Before I knew, right out of the blue Girl you had a hold on me But if I had those days over again I wouldn't change a thing If I had a chance to ask you why You know I wouldn't even try I was twenty-one and I was so far gone You couldn't reach me if you tried Money to burn and nothing to learn On an uphill downhill slide But if I had those times over again Where would I begin? If I had a chance to ask you why Well you know I wouldn't even try On an uphill downhill slide An uphill downhill slide And I see your life in photographs Frozen in another day I wonder if you ever knew I wonder if you felt the same At seventeen you had me in-between The devil and the deep blue sea I was twenty-one and I was so far gone Girl you had a hold on me But if I had those days over again Where would I begin? If I had a chance to ask you why You know I wouldn't even try On an uphill downhill slide An uphill downhill slide At seventeen you had me in-between An uphill downhill slide At seventeen you had me in-between An uphill downhill slide

Alison Jones, I saw her today Two summers older she still takes my breath away Ring on her finger and husband at home Alison Jones, who would have known? I said some words that I shouldn't have said Now I just wish that I'd kept them all in my head Easier now that the moment has gone To try to convince myself I was the perfect one Walked by the sign at the end of your street The house where you lived, the places we'd meet They feel empty and cold now that you're not around How times have changed since the day that you changed me Alison moved out with hardly a word She said it was work but I think she was bored With the people she knew and the places she'd been Or could it be Mr Jones heard about me? Then I said some words that I shouldn't have said Now I just wish that I'd kept them all in my head Easier now that the moment has gone To try to convince myself I was the perfect one Walked by the sign at the end of your street The house where you lived, the places we'd meet They feel empty and cold now that you're not around How times have changed since the day that you changed me Walked by the sign at the end of your street The house where you lived the places we'd meet They feel empty and cold now that you're not around How times have changed

There's nowhere left to hide And believe me I've tried I know when I'm beat I'm out on my feet Before I lose my mind Tell me what I might find If I could see your life from here Been leaning on my friends so hard They've started to bend And try as I might I can't sleep tonight Am I losing my grip Would I let it all slip If I could see your life from here Caught in the headlights Waiting for daylight To show me which way to turn So before I lose my mind Tell me what I might find If I could see your life from here I call out your name But it's always the same The moment has gone I've held back too long Should the conversation turn Tell me what I might learn If I could see your life from here Lost in a landslide Waiting for daylight To show me which way to turn Am I losing my grip Would I let it all slip If I could see your life from here There's nowhere left to hide And believe me I've tried I know when I'm beat I'm out on my feet So before I lose my mind Tell me what I might find If I could see your life from here If I could see your life from here
